Six Events We are Looking Forward to at SubSummit

LiftEngine is excited to attend, sponsor, and exhibit at this year’s SubSummit, hosted by the Subscription Trade Association (SUBTA). With over 1,500 attendees, 125 suppliers, and 100 speakers it is hard to decide what to attend! To help here are six events LiftEngine is looking forward to.

If you haven’t been asleep for the past few years, you have heard the “buzz word,” transparency, very often. More specifically, transparency and access to our personal data as the EU came out with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and closer to home, California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). More and more laws are being passed to protect the privacy of the consumer all because of companies not being transparent.  

Truebill, an app that helps consumers cancel subscriptions, was the last company I would have guessed to be speaking at SubSummit. Can their success be a lesson for us all?  

Truebill says it all with just one word, transparency. Being open and transparent from the beginning on how to cancel a subscription could improve customer retention by starting with a positive impression. Who would have thought that telling consumers how to cancel their subscription, at the point of sale, could be beneficial to retention and growth? 

2. The Battle for Entertainment Subscribers’ Share of Mind

It seems like each day I hear of a new entertainment subscription launching. Scrolling through the cable channels has been replaced with jumping from subscription to subscription. When hearing about a new show, my first question is which streaming network? From Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, etc. it is not just about the content but the interface. I am intrigued to see how new platforms and existing platforms are changing to be captivating in both entertainment and usability.  

What is often overlooked is that each show/movie must appeal to a portion of the platform’s audience, so it is important for them to understand their customer’s interests and demographics. Not only will this shape programming but help better target marketing campaigns.

3. How to Boost Your Brand Through a Modern PR Approach

Brand awareness can make or break a subscription company. Expressing your brand’s core values to your audience is important, especially with first impressions. I look forward to learning from Lindsey Palmer on her tools for perfecting your branding approach and message. When your message is set it is time to advertise. 

Want to better understand how your marketing campaigns are performing? With limited confidence in third-party pixel/cookie analytics, it is recommended to run a Matchback Report. It is always exciting to hear about companies like Lucky Box Club’s journey in an emerging industry, even with all the red tape. They have all the normal challenges of being a subscription box company with the addition of a limited customer base due to federal/state regulations, geography, and company policies.   

Lucky Box Club’s determined business growth and positivity in the face of regulation should be a motivator for us all in the data-driven marketing space, as we face new legislation like the CCPA.
